An Interview with Ryan

The following is a record of a recent interview Ryan had with one of his supporters:

When did you start playing squash?

"I started playing squash when I was 10 years old. I studied at Lancing College, West Sussex. They supported my squash development and helped me to combine my busy squash playing schedule with school work."

Do you have any coaching?

"Yes I do. My squash coach is Malcolm Whiteley. He prepares me for tournaments providing advice on Fitness, Mental Strength and Technical Match Play strategy. I am also fortunate to have the guidance and coaching from one of England's National Squash Coaches, Mike Harris. Mike has helped to improve both my physical game and mental strength, and I look forward to working with him throughout my squash career."

Are you a member of a Squash Club?

"My home club is New Malden Squash Club in Surrey, where I have been extremely well supported by the members. It is a friendly club and always welcomes visitors and new members. I currently play and captain the First Team. I also play for Corals Squash Club in Sussex."

Where and when did you play in your first tournament?

"My first tournament was the Wimbledon Graded Tournament that took place in September 2003 which I won. After the great experience of my first tournament I decided to continue playing as many tournament matches as possible. The decision has involved me travelling all over the UK, Europe, USA and the Middle East."

Isn't it very expensive travelling to all your tournaments? How do you afford it?

"The costs involved in playing squash at the highest level are always a factor in how many tournaments I am able to attend. My income comes from working in the squash industry as a coach and organiser. Being part of the squash community keeps me at the forefront of squash development.

I also have sponsorship packages available for individuals and businesses that are keen to be associated with sport. I am always available to discuss sponsorship opportunities and be contacted via the Contact page ".

Thank you for the interview!

"No Problem. I love talking about squash. Please look through my site for more information about the sport and my life on the Squash Circuit. If you would like to see me play then check out my Schedule of Tournaments and come along. I always appreciate the extra support!"

Best Wishes,

Ryan
